With Senator Kennedy's voice booming in our ears...

Amy Allina At 7:15 this morning, the U.S. Senate passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. To demonstrate the White House’s commitment and engagement in the effort, Vice President Joe Biden presided over the final debate and voted on the bill. Majority Leader Harry Reid closed the debate, reminding his colleagues of the decades of work toward this goal that so many have attempted to reach before without success and said they would be voting on the bill “with Senator Kennedy’s voice booming in our ears.”
As expected after months of bitterly partisan debate, the vote broke down strictly on party lines. All the Democrats and the Senate’s two Independents voted for the bill. All Republicans present voted against it. Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky wasn't there. The final vote was 60 to 39.
