Next on the House agenda

"John Boehner, you've just passed a bill to take health care away from millions of women and families!  What are you going to do next?"

And don't we wish the answer was go to Disney World?  But no...

Having launched its first attack on women’s health yesterday by passing H.R. 2, the bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the House leadership followed up today with the introduction of H.R. 3, an extreme ban on abortion coverage, sponsored by Representative Chris Smith of New Jersey.  For a great explanation of what’s in the bill, check out this piece by Jessica Arons at the Center for American Progress.  She lays out not only the threats this legislation poses to women’s reproductive health but also the new tax penalties it would impose on employers that want to provide comprehensive health insurance to employees and on families with any medical expenses related to abortion, and even the dangerous precedent it would set for government spending far beyond health care.

Rep. Smith’s bill would go far beyond current law, seriously compromise women’s access to reproductive health care, and hamstring government operations.
